CANADA DECIDES NOT TO FOLLOW BRITAIN'S LEAD
-Bv Telearranh — Oonvrie-htl.
Rec. Oct. 4, 5.5 p.m. OTTAWA, Saturday. Following a five-hour session of Cabinet, the Prime Minister, Mr. R. B. Bennett, announced that Canada will remain on the gold standard. "Canada has not altered her decision taken up when the announcement was made that England had departed from the gold standard," he said, "nor do we contemplate so doing. We have appealed to Canadians to conserve our gold supply to enable us to meet whatever strain may be placed upon our resources by reason of our foreign commitments, which ax*e payable in gold and which will be paid accordingly." The drop of the Canadian dollar in the United States has injured business so drastically in the American border cities that leading firms and hotels are advertising in the Canadian papers that they will accept Canadian money at par.
