Match with Hamilton. A team of 20 players from the Rotorua Golf Club will visit Hamilton on Saturday to play a match with the Hamilton Club. Snooker Tournament. A snooker tournament was played on Wednesday evening at the Rotorua j Fire Station, between teams from the fire brigade and the Geyser Lodge of Oddfellows, and resulted in a win for the brigade by a margin of 117 points. Results are as follows, brigade names being mentioned first: — R. Tucker 37 beat J. Kurney 16; F. Briggs 50, lost to K. Dohnt, 59; T. Middleton, 5&, beat W. Goddard 35; H. Balsdon 47 beat R. Lewis 25; P. Munro 62 beat A. Queenin 31; J. Shiels 44, beat R. Bould 16. Brigade 299 defeated the lodge 182. District Dairy Progress. Conclusive proof that tangihle progress in the development of the farming industry is being made in the Rotorua district is provided by the fact that already this season at least 20 j new dairy herds have been estab- ( lished and are supplying cream to local factories. In addition, several settlers on the Guthrie Settlement have this season commenced milking and are supplying cream to the factory.

Dairy Season Prospects. After a hard winter, during which dairy stock in parts of the district have suffered rather severely, the dairy season now commencing promises to be a good one. The warmer weather experienced during the past week or so has brought the grass away well, due largely to the fact that, generally speaking, the farmers have continued the topdressing of their pastures, despite the hard times. Earlier in the year it was feared that the financial stringency would l-esult in a considerable decrease in the area topdressed, but the "Post" learned yesterday from a reliable source that a larger quantity of fertiliser has been used in this district I this spring than ever before. This, our j informant said, was greatly to the credit of the dairy farmers, and showed that they are determined to maintain, and if possible increase the progress made in recent years.
