RIOTING UNEMPLOYED RUSH GATES OF HOUSE OF LORDS a MOUNTED POLICE USE BATONS

LONDON, Wednesday. Swarming from Hyde Park singing the "Red Flag" shouting "Down with the National Government," several thousand unemployed demonstrated in front of the Houses of Parliament. They broke the police cordon and attempted to enter the gates of the House of Lords. Police reinforcements were hurried to the scene and scattered the crowd. Demonstrators tried to unhorse the mounted men, who used their batons freely. Traffic in Parliament Square was brought to a standstill tiil the mounted police charged and cleared the square. Nine of the demonstrators were arrested. Attempts to rescue prisoners failed.
