OUT OF ORDER

WORKS COMMITTEE PROTESTS AGAINST DECISION OF COUNCIL At its meeting earlier in the month, the Rotorua Borough Council, contrary to the recommendation of its Works Committee decided to rqise a loan for work on Rangiuru Street and on the Lake Front Reclamatiqn Scheme. At last night's meetjng, the committee retaliated by recording a protest again the decision to raise this loan, hut the protest was promptly ruled out of order by the Mayor (Mr. T. Jackson) who pointed out that a committee could not call in question a decision of the full council. The protest was included as the last item on the committee's renort and immediately it was read out/ Cr. G. Urquhart moved that it he deleted. The Mayor said that as a matter of fact, it was out of order. A committee could not take this method q£ questioning the council's decision. There was a proper procedure for a protest of this nature. If any msmher considered that a decision of the council was not correCt he could take the proper steps to express his disagreement. The protest must be ruled out of order. The clause was accordingly deleted.
