Rugby Ball Bursts Aceording to our Reporoa correspondent, the conclusion of the Rugby season in Reporoa went with a bang on Saturday when two weighty Reporoa members playing against a visiting Ngongotaha team f ell on the ball and burst it. As there was no other ball available, this was the only shot fired in the course of the hostilities. > . Wednesday Cricket In preparation for the approaching opening of the cricket season, the : anntial meeting of the Rotorua Wed- : nesday Cricket Association is to be held in the Rotorua Furnishing Company's premises on October 12 at 8 p.m. Native Labour in Rhodesia Rotarian H. C. Krogh during his i address to the Rotary Club yesterday told some very interesting stories of mining life in Rhodesia taken froni his own personal experience. He mentioned the difficulties which cropped up when nsing native labour and some of the measures taken to make the natives do their work. * He alsd told of his experience of enlisting th6 tribesmen for mining work. He had collected a gang and had them congregated at the railway station ready for transport. Unfortunately, when the train approached the natives took fright and bolted back into the jungle. It took him another three days to collect them again -and the journey, in the end, had to be made on foot; Golf Match With Hamilton. Abont twenty names are already entered for the return Golf match to he played with the Hamilton Golf Club, at Hamilton, oU October 4. Among the entrants are some of Rotorua's foremost golfers and their inclusion in the team is considered fortunate as Hamilton is a strong club, several of whose players are of Dominion repute. Satnrday's Golf Results The Canadian Foursomes Golf match played on the Arikikapakapa Golf course on Saturday was contested in excellent 'golfing weather*. The course was playing well, having improved after the rain on Friday. Following are the best scores retnrned: — Downer and Kelly, 84 — 14—70; E. Roe and R. C. Smith, 83 — 11 — 72; A. Kusabs and H. Clay, 89 — 16 — 73; W. Kusabs and McElroy, 93—20 — 73. Address on Rhodesia An exceptionally interesting and entertaining address was given yesterday at the weekly luncheon of the Rotorua Rotary Club, by Rotarian H. C. Krogh. He took as his subject, Rhodesia, which he treated first from the historical standpoint, from the • time of the Colony's foundation by Cecil Rhodes. He traeed the life of this great pioneer, through his days of premiership until his death. He then gave a concise but vivid description of the country, its climate, its interesting places, and its inhabitants. Mr. Krogh was thanked for ' his address by Rotarian H. Hamilton, ! who said that it was rarely that one ! conld get first-hand information about j a country, especially about its everyj day life, and for this reason alone I he found Mr. Krogh's talk very interesting. Overseas Pnblicity. Several hundreds of enlarged coloured photographs have been distributed for display in suitable positions overseas, and 'thousands of whole-plate photographs have been supplied to travel agencies, overseas tourists, newspapers and New Zealanders going abroad. Large quantities of lanternslides have been distributed for the use of New Zealanders and oth.ers who are able and willing to lecture on the attractions of the Dominion. General publieity literature — mainly in the f orm of folders in colour, and maps — has been despatched to the number of : over a hundred thousand pieces, and I heavy printing orders for further j supplies are in hand, states the re- j port of the Department of Tourist ! and Health Resorts, submitted to Parliament last year. Intentions Not Altered.

At last night's meeting of the Rotorua High School Board, Mr. H. A. Goudie, stated that there was absolutely no foundation for a reeent statement made by a member of the Borough Council to the effect that the board had abandoned its original proposal to erect a hostel on the medical officer's reserve site, in connection with the scheme to extend the course of agricultural education at the school. Mr. Goudie stated that the board had not altered its original intentions in any way.

Beautifying- Society Meeting. The adjourned meeting of the execntive of the Rotorua Beautifying Society will be held this evening in the office of the president, Mr. E. I La Trobe Hill, at 8 p.m. The meeting . has under consideration the report submitted to- the Borough Council by the landscape architect, Mr. F. Tschopp, which it was found impossible to deal with adequately in one evening.
