PRICES RISING
BUSINESS ACTIVE IN MINING AND INDUSTRIAL SHARES MOTOR TRADE BOOMING LONDON, Thursday. The active conditions which marked the opening of the Stock Exchange yesterday were fully maintained today. Industrial, oil and mining shares all improved, while gilt-edge seeurities showed a decline. Sterling weakened, and there was no change of the bank rate. To-day metal prices recovered further from the low record figures of last week. The general tone is confident, but there ' is no disposition to overlook the possibilities of a reaction. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Snowden, in the House of Commons, in answer to a question stated that although it was impossible to give the exact figure of foreign exchange transactions by British nationals in the last three weeks, exhaustive inquiries showed that among thousands of transactions no substantial number were British. "England is better than she has been for years," said Sir William Morris, the industrialist, addressing motor car agents in his Midlands factory. "The saies of motor cars for the year was over 27 per cent. greater than for any year in history. I am confident they will be greater in 1932."
