PUBLICATION OF ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION RECORDS ABANDONED DELAY S DISCOURAGE EXPLORER Rec. Kp.rit 25. 7.50 ri.m.

-Copvrieiit.

By Telephone—

SYDNEY, Friday. After having spent £6500 of public money on printing the record of the Australian Antarctic Expedition of 1912-1924 under an agreement with Sir Douglas Mawson, the New South Wales Government has decided, says the Sydney "Sun," to go no further with the project. Indeed, the Government is seeking a legal opinion whether it can recover from Sir Douglas Mawson certain assets, including instruments and marine specimens. Government officials blame Sir Douglas Mawson, contending that he has not fulfilled his part of the bargain. Sir Douglas Mawson replied that the slow rate of publication had discouraged contributors. While the recent expedition delayed the preparation Pf records in some sections, he submits that there is a serious misunderstanding and adds: "I have been heart-broken by the delay and difficulties in the Government's Printing Office."
