TABLET MODELLED IN RUBBER

The memorial tablet to J. B. Dun- | lop, the inventor of the pneumatic tyre, that was recently unveiled in Belfast, Ireland, was carried out in the material which made his invention possible. It was shaped from a block of hard rubber weighing 2701b, subjected to a pressure of 250 tons, and balced for 110 hours. Another curious thing ahout this memorial was that, after the actual portrait had been copied on to the rubber from the sculptor's clay model, the lettering was- done by "a burr with six microscopic cutting edges, such as is used by dentists in preparing teeth for filling."
