FAULT IN CABLE

WELLINGTON-SYDNEY LINE WELLINGTON, Thursday. A fault has developed in one of the Eastern extension, Australasia and China Telegraph Company's cables between Wellington and Sydney and the cable steamer Iris is to carry out the necessary repair work. The cable is functioning as usual, but it is considered that a break may occur, so the Iris is to call at Wellington on Tuesday from Auckland and after taking on a supply of cables and bunker coal will put to sea to locate the fault, which is about 500 miles from Wellington. The time the work will take will depend upon the weather conditions.
