SHEARERS' WAGES

DISPUTE BEFORE COURT WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Dominion shearers' dispute came before the Arbitration Court to-day. The employers made an application for a new award. The most important matter referred to the Court is the question of rates of pay. The employers ask that the shearing rates should he fixed at 19/- per 100, while the workers seek a rate of £1 10/- per 100 for hand-shearing and £1 7/6 for machine shearing. There are also varitions in other branches of shearing. Regarding the pay for \shed-hands the suggested rates are as follow the employers, rate being mentioned first:
