Flaudin, Minister of Commerce, says that the outstanding features of the panic stricken world is the uncertainty brought about by the situation in London. After explaining that France had intervened because this attack on sterling would, if successful, mean universal disaster, he said: "It is now that we are seeing the real consequences of the war, in destroying an enormous amount of the capital patiently built up by previous generations. The realisation. of this, he said, cannot fail to fortify the desire for peace and tranquillity.
