BOWLING

SATURDAY'S GAMES On tbe bowling greens in the Government Gardens on Saturday the games were witnessed by a large number of spectators, including a number from the Sanatorium. Only five rinks were available. and many players were therefore unable to get a game. Messrs. Tyson and Budd officiated as a selection eommittee. The games resulted:' — A. Budd (skip), T. W. Witt and H. J. Farren, 25, defeated A. P. Lasenby (skip), G. Watts and J. McGuffog 13. A. E. Plummer (skip), J. W. Tyson, and J. Morgan, 20, defeated J. • R. Lundon (skip), A. -E. Polglase, and W. Chambers, 18. W. Jones (skip), R. Brownie, and Jansen, 26, defeated F. Lee (slcip), A. Steele and G. Knight, 16. J. B. Morrison (skip), J. W. Webber, and E. Dawson, 17, defeated T. Palmer (skip), Dr. H. Bertram, and P. T. Wash> 16. T. Lindsay (skip), A. T. Butt, and R. Miller, 22, defeated G. E. Foster (skip), D. Herd, and J. Managh, 10. NOTES ON THE PLAY ' Tyson's play was of outstanding merit; Plummer, Herd, Witt and Morrison were consistent and effective. Budd's fast ones were devastating, and his generalship achieved results. The Butt-Lindsay-Miller trio carried too many guns for their opponents. Jones, Lasenby, and Chambers did good work, but Polglase, Lundon and Dr. Bertram were patchy. Webber and Lee were not up to their form but Morgan and Dawson showed steadiness and preeision. Farren, McGuffog, Managh and Wash were making a good first appearance, while Steele and Brownie pegged away with vim. Knight was below grade; but Watts showed promise, and Foster found the opposition too tough. Of the visiting brigade T. Palmer, of Te Puke, was in great form. The Tourist Department has notified the v/ithdrawal of the present winter play privileges after next Wednesday's rounds, which will inelude the final replay between Budd and Williams versus Polglase and Lundon for possession of the Nicholas Gold Bowls. To-day and to-morrow will be devoted to pairs and sextets. The summer season, it is understood will be ofncially opened on October.
