THE HANGMAN'S PAY. LONDON. The Home Secretary revealed in the House of Commons recently that 87 persons serving commuted death sentences had been released from prison during the last ten years, and so far as is known none had committed a further murder. He was answering a series of questions by members wanting the death penalty suspended for a trial period, as recommended by the recent select committee. The Government, he declared, had no intention of actioning- the matter until Parliament discussed and pronounced upon the committee's recommendations.
