Artillery Camp at Arawa Park. If present plans mature, territorial artillery units; from the Northern Military Command, which emhraces" Auckland city and province, will undergp their annual training in camp at Arawa Park, . Rotorua early next year. Interviewed by the "Post" on Saturday evening, Colonel J. E. Duigan, D.S.O., Commandant of the Nortern Command, stated that it was hoped that a camp for the artillery will be established at Arawa Park about the middle of February next and that it would be occupied continuously for about six weeks by suc- ; cessive units from his command. It is expected that at least 350 ofiicers and men will pass through the camp. New Volunteer Defence Force Colonel J. E. Duigan, D.S.O., Commandant of the Northern Military Command, will address members of the Rotorua Rotary Glub at their weekly luncheon to-day. Colonel DuL gan will take as his subject "The NeW Zealand Military Forces," and will explain the character and scheme of voluntary enlistment in the Territorial force. Colonel Duigan informed the "Post" on Saturday that the new system of enlistment is'proving most successful, particularly in the eountry districts, where many of the units, notably the Hauraki Regiment, which has a platoon drawn from Rotorua, already are up to their full complements and have waiting lists. Australians in Rotorua The touring Australian Rugby team will arrive in Rotorua on Sunday, Septemher 13, and after visiting Whaka and various other points of interest will leave the f ollowing morning for Wairakei. Mr. A. C. Kitto, a member of the New Zealand Rugby Union, and well known in New Zealand sporting and rugby circles, is travelling as the New Zealand Union's representative with the team.

Firemen win at Snooker. A snooker match was played ori Wednesday b'etween teams from the Manchester Unity Order of Oddfellows and members of the Rotorua Fire Brigade. The games, which were played at the fire station, proved most enjoyable. Following are the results, the Oddfellows being mentioned first — E. Armer 40, L. Duff 28, H. Hill 28, F. Munro 54, J. Ladies' Golf A team of Rotorua lady golfers journeyed to Matamata on -Thursday to play an inter-club match. Although the results were not in favour of the Rotorua team, all the players enjoyed themselves and were high in their praise of the hospitality extended to them. The 'results are as follows, the Matamata players being mentioned first: — Miss Johnson beat Mrs. S. Parata, 2 and 1; Mrs. Dickey lost to Mrs. Haymes, 3 and 2; Miss Taylor beat Mrs. Blakely, 2 and 1; Miss Robinson lost to Mrs. Robinson, 2 up; Mrs. Montague beat Miss Booth,- 4 and 3 ; Mrs. Mentiplay beat Mrs. Foltune, '7 and 5; Miss McGeahan beat Mrs. Tapper, 3 and 2; Mrs. Underwood beat Mrs. P. J. Sherriff, 3 and 2. Many Hawks Driven from their haunts in the high eountry by the cold weather hawks are at present very plentiful on the Reporoa plaips. Yesterday's snow-fall apparently came as a novel experience to these predatory birds and several of them could be seen by motorists trying to find their way through the drifting fiakes. Wild Horec in Snow Wild horses are reported to be inereasing in numbers between Rotorua and Taupo. During the height of yesterday's snow storm, one of the horses, bewildered by the falling snow, ran in front of a service car for over a mile and finally collapsed in a drift at the side of the road.

Increased Trafffic Road t'raffic through Rotorua has shown a marked inerease during the past week and has been heavier than for some time past. The Gisborne, Napier, and Auckland routes have all been particularly busy. Military Examiiaation Major C. L. Knight, M.C., Second in Command of the Hauraki Regiment, was examined during the weekend in "Tactical Fitness to Command." Colonel J. E. Duigan, D.S.O., conducted the examination.

Mortality Among Lambs. Lambing is fairly well forward in the Waiotapu district and it is expected that yesterday's snow fall will result in an increased mortality. Newly born lambs could be seen huddled together for warmth during the height of the storm. Rain Stops GoliF. Play in the Rotorua 'Golf Club's Eclectic Handicap tournament, which was to have commeneed on Saturday afternooh, had to be abandoned on account of the downpour of rain which made the course practically unplayable. Casual water was lying in all the hollows and many of the bunkers were filled to a depth of several inches. The total weight of potatoes imported into the United ICingdim during March, April, May and June of last year was 79,844cwt., 163,480cwt., 974,318cwt., and 2,438,393cwt. respectively.
