PORI OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD, Sat. Eminent British and American scientists are investigating a serious disease which is causng many deaths among human beings and animals here. The symptoms of the disease are akin to those of infantile paralysis. It has been diagnosed as botulism, but it is now believed to be the result of some virus or infection which has attacked human beings. Tests of contacts, made at the Lister Institute, London, and the Rockefeller Institute, New York, differ com siderably. Sir Wilfrid Beveridge declares that the problem is an unusually difficult one and is possibly unknown to science. Surgeon-General Wise, of Trinidad, has suggested that the disease is the result of the bite of mad vampire bats which are now killing many cattle in Brazil, but many objections are raised to this suggestion. Meanwhile, residents, particularly in the country districts, are terrified of this strange malady.
