FASHION HINTS

ALL ABOUT OUR SHOES. Pig-skin and suede are new notes in shoe fashions. Pig-skin is very satisfactory for early summer shoes but is not, of course, at all luxurious. It has been replaced to some extent by "velvet pig," a leather from which the surface is taken, leaving a somewhat spongy skin, which, when made up into shoes, is cleaned in the same way as we can clean suede. There are distinct signs of a revival in suede in all the fashionable colours. Black , and brown suede shoes ar>e much liked by Parisiennes, Mauresque, hazelnut, and beech-nut are prophesied as the favour:te colours for this seuson's shoes. Grey, especially pewter grey, will also be seen. The tendency is towards plainer shoes. The medium Spanish hecl and the rounded toe still dominate shoe-styles though Louis heels are still seen. The moderate Louis heel, the prettiest heel in the world, some of us think, cannot apparently hold its own for smartness against the mora abrupt line of the Spanish heel. However, there are signs that the Spanish heel is taking on the very faintest suggestion of a curve. One-bar and court shoes are equally in favour, and san-dal-bars are still liked, but the centre strap must be a slender one.
