Final Tournament. The Rotorua Athletie Glub will conduct the final 500 tournament of its suecessfuT series in Costello's dining rooms to-night. Excellent prizes and a good super will be provided. Meteorological Observations. The following are the barometer, maxirnuxn and minimum thermometer and rainfall, readings recorded at the Government Observation station by the Tourist Department for the , 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday: — Barometer, 29.382 ins; thermometer max-)> 55.0 deg.; thermometer (min.),-33.0 deg.; rainfall, 0.33 ins. Re-Constructing Bridges. Provision is being made to replace at an early date, the two dangerously narrow bridges aeross the Paurenga stream and the stream at the f ourmile peg on the Rotorua-Whakatane main highway, with full width reinforced concrete structures. This is in keeping with the recent reconstruetion of four narrow one-way bridges on the same highway between. Rotorua and Te Ngae junction. Help for Distress. The Rotorua Wometn's Club acknowledge with thanks gifts of meat on several occasions by Mrs W. H. Smith, of Te Ngae, for distribution among the distressed families of Rotorua, and alsp by Mr BalcheMore, of Reporoa, whp. last week sent in two sheep for the same purpose^ The animals were kill'ed, free of charge, at. the Borough Abbatoirs and were distributed without charge by Mr Dixon, butcher, of Tutanekai Street. Unemployment Donations. Donations to the Rotorua Unemployment Relief Funds have been received from St. Luke's Girls' Club (£11), Rotorua Catholic Committee, £5 17s 6d), St. John's Girls' Club, (£5). Wrong ImpressionRotorua visitors who were guests at Chateau Tongariro, during the past week-end, cphfirm the reports that members of the ill-fated Auckland tramping party were warned not to attempt the ascent of Ruapehu on Saturday morning, but state that a report given to the "Post" on Monday to the effect that the leader of the party, Mr Graham Bell, disregarded this advice, conveyed a wrong impression- Aetually, Mr Bell was not anxious to make the trip under the prevailing conditions, but when he saw that the younger members of the party were set on making the ascent, he fell in with their wishes, in order that the party should not go without a leader. Late Mr Robertson's Request. Mrs E. A. Robertson, widow of the late Mr Edwin Robertson, of "Tirowai," Rotorua, has written as follows to the Town Clerk (Mr "W. A. MeLean). "My husband made a request- before he died, that his funeral should be as simple as possible and that a sum of money should be, given to some one in need. I am therefore enclosing a cheque for £20, as from him, to be spent for the benefit of any women and children that the Unemployment Relief Committee desires to help. Cycle Accident. When cycling home on Monday evening, Miss A. Firth, postmistress of Whakarewarewa, was knocked down by a lorry, but unfortunately escaped without serious injury- Miss Firth was absent from duty yesterday as a result of her experience, and her bicycle was considerably damagedRepairs at Spout Bath.
