CANBERRA, ^August 29. The Lieutenant Governor of Papua, reporting on the recent first exploration of the^ inhospitable valley of Kiapou, says that Patrol Offieer Hides found a.most unfriendly people living in scattered villages in the wildest localities and practising strange rites particularly in regard to the disposal of the deadThe natives are cannibals and qpparently fierce fighters. They attacked the expedition and one carrier was wounded by arrows.
