SINGLES CHAMPION

ASHTON CUP PRESENTED. At last evening's annual meeting of the Rotorua Bowling Club, before the meeting proceeded to the election of officers for the ensuing year, the occasion was taken hy the retiring president, Mr. A. W. Downer, to present the Ashton Cup, the trophy for the club's singles championship, to the season's winner, Mr. A. K. Williams. In making the presentation, Mr. Downer congratulated Mr. Williams on his success. He appeared to have won everything that was going and every .member would agree that he had played his games as a sportsman (applause). Accepting the cup, Mr. Williams in a brief speech, thanked the president for his k'ind remarks, and took the opportunity to congratulate his opponent in the final, Mr. A. E. Fowkes. The international cable news appearing in this issue is published by arrangement with the Australian Press Association and Sun-Herald News Service, Limited.
