Saturday aft'ernoonys ideal bowling conditxons attracted a large number of enthusiasts to the Sanatorium green wh'ere all th'e available rinks were in use before the hour at which the draw is usualy timed to take place. Late comers, perforce, watched the 1 games in progress and thoroughly enj joyed the various contests. Am'ong the early bird players I was Mr. A. Back Again. , Veteran Dave Herd, lately on tour n the Winterless North, is again disporting himself on the emerald sward and displaying all his aforetime skill, accura'cy in the draw, and general elan as a skip. . Mr. I. W. Witt, of Wellington, is ah early visitor to the Rotorua pleasure grounds. He proposes staying until Easter and will spend his time teaching the young idea and the older hands how to enjoy life on the Sanatorium g'reens. Mr. Tapp, erstwhile of Te Aroha Bowling Club, is now in residence and in business here and has been showing A form during the past week. He will be a hefty addition to Rotorua's bowling strength. Hitherto the club's officers have, in the main, been conspicuous by their absence from the winter green games, but now that their report and balance sheet has been circulated, and their labours are approaching finality, it is hoped. that the heads may be able shortly to grace the playing arena with an oecasiona'l attendance before the winter season closes. Candidates for Election. A renaissance in the ambition to participate in club management is apparent among the hitherto untried. Of the four contestants for the Vice-Presidentship, one (Mr. A. Hesketh) is the officer-in-charge of the Sanatorium grounds, Ji
- - - - and another (Mr. J. B. Morrison) is a very well known bowling expert and :he club's Hurricane Driver. Neither has competed previously for the honour, nor has the third candidate, Mr. H. Hamilton. The present junior Vice-President (Mr. J. McDowell) is facing the bowlng constituency for its suffrages for. ihe first time as a sitting Vice-Presi-dent, he having been elected as a aommitteeman only at the last annual meeting, but was elevated later by the management to a Viee-Presi-lentship rendered vacant during the summer by the regrettable death of , ihe elected president. The contest ior the secretaryship, which carrjes ' a honorarium of £40 per annum, lies between the.. present occupant, Mr. W. W- , P • Hall, and a former secre- > -ary, Mr. J. W. Webbei". Their are also two nominations, Messrs. A. H. ; Foggm and Lundon, for the treasurerihip, and 15 for the nine positions as • committeemen. Messrs. Budd and Ootfcrell, formerly much in the bowl- : ng eyes of Hamilton and Te Puke, respectively, Lasenby, Merriman (exPresident), Tyson, Plummer, Wil- , ;ams (triple champion this year), W.
Jones, and J. R. Lundon (late of Carlton Club) are the new aspirants for committeeship. The ever popular Teddy Fowkes ' (of Suva champion fours fame) and Messrs. Aitken, E. Harris, T. Lindsay, ' Gardner and Downer (fetiring Presid'eii't), are the other outgoihg mem- j beis. of last session's cabinet who are 1 seelcing return to the board of . con- ! trol. The genial Mt. Tom Kelly I (uhopposed) is the defacto President elect for 1931/32. The report and balance sheet to be presented for consideration and adoption at the club's ro'om, in the bawling pavilion to-night at 8 p.m., contaih items of interest to the confraternity, some of which may ovoke interesting discussion. YESTERDAY'S GAMES. On the wmter greens in the Government Grounds yesterday members of 1 the Rotorua Bowling Club played a series of pairs games. Mr. and Mrs. Nich'olas, the donors of the Nicholas Gold Bowls trophy, were among the spectators yesterday. Following are the results: — R. Miller (skip) and . The veteran just missed with his last in passing the mustard to "Merry." J. W. Webber (skip) and J. Dy- : son, 23, beat A. L. Lasenby (skip) and Percy Tapp (Te Aroha), 20. Webber is nsw in A1 form and Dyson still as safe and consistent as of yore. A. Budd° (skip) and F. Lee, 15, .; went down to J. R. Lundon (sk'p) and A. E. Polgiase.
