In excellent golfing weather — there being a slightly overcast sky — with. tbe fairways perfect and the greens putting true, tke first and second rounds of the Rotorua Golf Club's Amateur Open Championship and the Thermal Caoilenge Cup Handicap were played. Bogey handicap matches were also contested in conjuncuon with the two rounds for the cups. Brinsden and Goss, two the foremost golfers, did excellent rounds, tii'3 f m-mer returning in 69 and • both oeating the Colonel whose score stands at 71. Another fine round was that of S. E. Carr in the bogey handicap, wbo went out in 82 and returned in 38, to do a 70. D. Anderson, in his morning round did the 4 last ftve holes m tbrees, wh eh is probably a record. Macknight did a fiulc'e at the Lak'e, 322 yards, by sinking from -t difficult position with his second.
