STRANGE DEVELOPMENT. PALMERSTON NORTH, Last Night. A Stjry that after leaving his ma;lbox at Tiakitahuna, two miles from t'he scene of the Blakeway tragidy, he heard the whine and crash of a pearifle bullet into some object nearby was told by a resident of the T'akitahuna district, Mr. E. F. Spiers. The incident occurred at 4 o'clock this morning when it was quite dark. Mr. Spiers thought at first t'hat the sound was caused by a tyre being punctured by a stone which had flown up and struck the mail-box, but realised afterwards that the road wa:, bitumenised. He then rcturned ana found a bullet hole in the box. He reported the matter to the police, shortly after a man named Matbeson had ar"•"ived at the police station with the bullet. Later a woman reported tha! she had observed a hole in the box wo davs ago, but :t is strange that the bullet was not discovered before It is possible that Spiers h«aard the hot ard that the bullet struck another object. The* police are enquiri-ng into the matter. There are no further development' in the Blakeway case.
