IN THE PLAYING FIELD.
The first few games of the new season's tennis and golf are particularly trying to the complexion, especially if one has not led an outdoor life during the winter, writes a London beauty expert. The skin reddens quickly in the sun,, and frequently becomes blemished with little patches of roughness. "Go slow" is the maxim of the beauty specialists at this time of year. Although heayy make-up is out of place on the tennis courts, and a shady hat is inconvenient, these protections should be dispensed with only cautiously. For the first few days of the season use a f oundation cream on which quite a thick film of powder is dusted. Only women with oily skins should use a drying powder cream. Oils which contain ingredients to intercept the rays of the sun are sold by several specialists. They are partieularly good for use on arms and neck, and take a coating of talcum powder well. For the supersensitive skin there is a soothing lotion of almonds, honey and cucumber, which can be used as a powder base. Never powder immediately after a game. Cleanse the face, close the pores, and apply cream first. Makeup should be applied in bright light, for the tendency at the beginning of the summer is to overdo it. Use only the most natural tints.
