INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
Per Press Association. Christchurch, August 38. In connection with jtbe scarlet fever epidemic the Health Department brought several charges against persons who had been in contact with sufferers, charging them with failing to notify and exposing infected clothes.
Counsel tor the Department said the cases had been brought for the purpose of drawing public attention to regualtions regarding infections diseases. Small penalties were in l flicted by the Magistrate. In one case, that of G. T. Booth, he had been in his daughter’s room hut not in contact with the patient. There was much argument as to whether a doctor in a room could not equally he charged with exposing infected clothes,. Counsels- for the Department asked fdr ah adjournment to bring evidence to supportgDr. Duncan’s statements as to infection-carrying, hut the Magistrate dismissed the charge.
