LORD. DERBY’S EULOGY.
SIR DOUGLAS HAIG’S TRIBUTE.
Loudon, August 31.
Thirty thousand witnessed the Oountfss of Roberts nnyeiling an equestrian statue of her father at Glasgow. Lord Derby delivered an euloginm. He said he could not overlook the fact that Lord Roberts Was treated with scorn by many who should have known better. He preached a lesson they were now earning. If Britain had learned it earlier it would have saved thousands of men and millions of pounds. . Sir Douglas Haig telegraphed: For many years Lord Roberts had seen this war coming. He laboured unceasingly to awake his countrymen,'who must feel a pang of regret that the gallant old soldier was not fcpared to see how splendidly the British people had risen to" the occasion and how, through many tribulations, they were steadily bringing the terrible war to a triumphant end.
