RANGIWAHIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Friday evening last, in the Public Hall a very successful concert was given by thescliool children and friends In spite of the severe inclemency of the weather a good attendance was recorded. The children, under the directorship of Mr W. Dent, the local music teacher, received well-merited applause for their various songs and choruses. Special mention is deserved of the song and chorus “The British Navy,” sung by Ada Deihl, the chorus being rendered spectacular by a well arranged display of white banners, bearing in letters of gold the names of the battle cruisers, torpedo boats, etc., which took a prominent part in the great North Sea fight. Songs by Mrs Frimly and Mr W. Dent and pianoforte items and accompaniments by Mrs Hawaon, all combined in making the programme a musical treat. MrPiraci, who came all the way from Feildiug, in the pouring rain in order to be present, occupied the chair in his usual able manner and in no small degree helped to make the concert a success with an interesting recitation “If.” by Rudyard Kipling, and later by a most interesting and instructive speech on matters of education, after which he distributed prizea ,s to successful scholars. Both he and Mr Curry, the head teacher, in well chosen terms, expressed thanks to those friends and helpers who had contributed so generously towards making the evening a successful and enjoyable one. Mr Curry was pleased to announce that the proceeds of the concert amounted to the substantial sum of £l4, which is to be expended in providing a school library, which will he an acquisition to the school and attending scholars for years to come.
