PURCHASE OF CERTIFICATES.

BY LOCAL BODIES FOR EMPLOYEES.

Per Press Association. . Christchurch, Aug. 23. A question was raised at a meeting at Lyttelton on Satudray in connection with the War Loan as to whether municipalities have, a legal right to purchase out of Borongh Funds certificates for their employees. Mr L. A. Stringer, Town Clerk, sent a wire to the Minister of Finance asking whether the Government would authorise local bodies to advance cash against instalments from wages to assist employees to boy certificates. The Minister replied; ‘‘Yes, I will authorise and if necessary indemnify by Act next session.”
