\ A slip on the|Main Trunk Line, between Rata and Hunterville this morning, delayed the midday passenger train to Marton for two hours. The slip has now been cleared, and the ordinary timetable resumed. . A fireman on the collier Karori, named Thomas Lawler mekhis death by drowning in the Bailer River, last week. The vessel was coaling at the crane wharf when the accident happened. William Cox, railway foreman, saw Lawler, who appeared unsteady in his gait, go aboard the ship and then disappear over the side between ti e ship and the wharf. George Whiting also asw Lawler fall into the water.' Lawler was a native of England, 83 years of age, and signed on the Karori as fireman in Dunedin on 11th August. Little is known of him by others on board the steamer." The police dragged for the body, but without success.
