HIGH COMMISSION EE’S CABLE. Per Press Association. Wellington, Aug. 21. The High Commissioner cabled the following market report, dated London, Augut 19th. (Note: —The quotations, unless otherwise specified being the average marked prices on spot);— . Meat—Owing to continued small supplies of New Zealand mutton-and lamb and Argentine mutton, prices are higher. Home killed mutton and English lamb is in good supply, lower prices being quoted for Argentine beef, owing to an increase in supply. Secondary quality New Zealand beef is in poor demand at lower prices. New Zealand mutton ewe mutton BJ£d, Argentine New Zealand lamb Argentine lamb lid, New Zealand bull beef, hinds 5%d, fores Argenine chilled beef, hinds fores 6Kd.

Butter.—The market continues firm. Danish salted 196 sto 300 s, Irish creamery salted 178 sto 183 s, uusalted 180 a to 184 s, Canadian, salted 174 sto 178 s, New Zealand, salted 176 s to 180 s, good to fine quality, salted 170 sto 1745, Argentine, unsalted 174 s to 1765. Cheese.—The market is firmer. Canadian white 95s to 98s, English cheddar 108 sto 112 s, New Zealand white 97s to 98s, coloured 95s to 975. Speculative buying, white 93s to 955, coloured 93s to 945,

Hemp.—The market is quiet with a steady demand, principally speculative. Good fair New Zealand £ 8 10s, fair £46 10s, Government graded fair Manila £sl. 10s. fair £45 to £45 10s, Government graded fair Manila £sl, coarse £47 10s. The output of hemp at Manila for the week ending last Saturday was 11,000 hales.

Wheat.—The market is firm and erratic on account of conflicting reports regarding the American crop. No. 1 Manitoba Northern, AugustSeptember, sold from 63s to 65s 6d. The oats market is quiet and prices slightly weaker owing to English new crop offering. Argentine on spot 30s, English old 355, new 365. . The wool market is dull and unsettled on account of the possibility of the Government requisitioning colonial wool. STOCK REPORT. Abraham and Williams' Ltd., Palmerston North, report: We held our usual weekly stock sale at Feeding Side yards ou Friday, 18th inst. We offered a good yarding of both sheep and cattle, for which competition was keen. Tbe attendance of buyers was large. We quote: SheepCull hoggets 15 Bsd to £l, fat hoggets 22s Id to 27s 6d, fat wethers 32s Id to 34a 4d, fat ewes 31s. Cattle: 3 and 4yr bullocks 13s 9d, yearling steers £3 15s to £5 17s, fat cows £7 19s to £8 ss, empty store cows £4 17s to £6 10s, empty heifers £4 Is, springing cows £5 5s to £9 15s, springing heifers £8 15s, weaners £2.
