MASSACRE IN NEW HEBRIDES.

trie Telegraph—Copyright. Sydney, August 21. The steamer Makambo brought news of a horrible massacre at the New Hebrides. A trader named R. J. Bridges ami his five children were mnrdered by bush tribes and his .store looted. There are indications that one child was eaten. .Received August 22. 11 a.m. Sydney, August 22. Details of tbo massacre of Bridges’ family at Tautu show that t the family, of whom the eldest child is twelve, were at supper when they were attacked. The bodies of Bridges and the four children were battered almost beyond recognition. The fifth child was carried into the bush. The indications are that the natives first killed Bridge’s native wife. Another child was absent at t,ne time of the tragedy, which is stated to be the result of a long period of weak administration of native matters.
