A DEADLY POISON.
A CHEMIST’S DEATH
Per Press Association. Christchurch, Aug. 31
At the inquest on Edward Creighton Kirk, chemist, of Colombo Street, a single man aged 36, Walter Eairclough, dentist, stated that he found Kirk dead in bed this morning. Witness found a bottle labelled with the name of a deadly poison and a tumbler on a duchess chest three yards from the bed. The body was completely covered with the bed clothes. Witness was an intimate friend of the deceased’s family, and wished to have a post. mortem examination, to clear up the cause of death. The Coroner said witness was quite right in asking for a post mortem. He understood that the effects of this poison were very rapid, and if the bottle of poison were found three yards from the bed it seemed extraordinary if the man committed suicide, that be could have got hack to his bed and covered himself with the bed clothes. The Coroner ordered a post mortem and adjourned the inquest.
