The Petit Parision says the French successes on the Somme on Wednesday were not a surprise to the Germans. who were fully aware that the attack was imminent after two days’ bobmardment, but the German artillery is no match for the French. French losses were not heavy. The Germans still hold Guillemont and a portion of Maurepa», thanks tojthc proximity of Combles, which is a veritable fortress.
