The New York Times’ Berlifa correspondent, who interviewed the German Commander in Chief on the Somme, represents him assaying: “I hope the British offensive will contiue. I have several hamlets which I will gladly sacrifice for the loss of twenty thousand British each.” The Times says there is reason to believe that this mysterious German Commander in Chief on the Somme isMackensen.
