SALE OF FLOWERS FOR SAILORS’ BENEFIT.
SIR,—A letter from Mrs H. S. Hadfield, of Wellington, states that a comittee there has arranged a sale of flowers in the streets of that city on Friday next, the [oth August. The proceeds are to purchase light clothing for the sailors of H.M. ships Philoel and Pyraus, which have for some time been and are in the terrible heat of the Persian Gulf. Mrs Hadfield asks that contributions of 'flowers (of any kind, of course) may. be sent to her ou Thursday nest. I propose to receive flowers at' the Supper Rooms in the Town Hall on that day up to at 12 o’clock noon, when they will be packed and despatched. Marton and district can just now and will, ;I am sure, send a handsome contribution. 1 suggest that if contributors will kindly place their gifts in, say, cardboard boxes, it will save the blooms from crushing. But those who cannot do that may still bring blooms even if it is only one or two good ones. All will help.—l am. etc., M. E. WILSON, M Qtirircicq Marton, IBtb August, 1916.
