James Allen stated that the New Zealand Hospital Ships Marama and Maheno were now doing splendid work in conveying sick and wounded soldiers between France and England, their services being of an Imperial character. . and were not used exclusively lor the conveyance of New Zealanders. The extent of their work can he ganged by tlu record of the Maheno, which on July Bth last took no fewer than 1141 sick and wounded from Havre, a record which, the Minister says, seems to he almost incredible.
