THE WAR LOAN.
AN URGENT APPEAL FROM SIR JOSEPH WARD. His Worship 'the Mayor (Mr F. C. Wilson) received the following urgent telegram from Sir Joseph Ward last night:— It would be of great assistance in connection \yith the War Loan if you could arrange to hold a public meeting, at which you yourself and other speakers might urge the necessity of the public taking up investments. All mouey-order offices throughout the Dominion will be kept open from 7 to 8.30 p. m. on Friday and Saturday nest for the purpose of receiving applications for investments. I am sure that yon will be only too pleased to help the Dominion in its new venture. J. G. WARD.
In response to the above urgent appeal from the Finance Minister, the Mayor has called a public meeting at the Marton Town Hall torn orrow evening at 8 o’clock, when it is hoped that their will ha a large attendance of the residents of the towu and country, and that they will, respond in a generous manner in taking scrip for the purpose of providing the sinews of war. It would appear irom the fact that meetings are to be called throughout the country for the purpose of supplying an impetus to the purchase of bonds that the country is not doing its duty, From several sources news reaches us that the bonds aie not selling at anything like the rate that the Minister of Finance expected. Meetings are being called with a view toS explaining the advantages of the loan and the duties of the public, though it is to be hoped that in this district people will not wait till the meeting is held to do their duty.
