THE CAPTURE OF GORIZIA.
j .WILY GENERAL CADORNfI.* SECRET WORK BEHIND THE LINES STARTLER FOR AUSTRIANS. Milan, Aug. 13. All evidence confirms the theory that the Austrians were completely surprised at Goiizla. General Cadorna let the Austrians believe that his main effort was still being made in the Treutino, and that then; if he reattacked on-the Isonzo, Gorizia would be the last place to anticipate assault. Cndorna swiftly and secretly transferred ui&sses of men and artillery to the Isonzo and overwhelmed the enemy by one victorious ruse. This possibly explains the Austrians’ silence on Monte Santo, whence the artillery might at least have made the conquest of Gorizia much more difficult and costly. The completeness of the surprise was also evidenced by the battlefield and roads, which were strewed with equipment of every description. BATTLE STILL PROCEEDS. TURKS REINFORCING AUSTRIANS. ITALIAN ENTRY INTO GORIZIA A TRIUMPHAL MARCH. Milan, Aug. 13. There were stirring scenes when the Italians entered Gorizia. After teh first parties had dashed through the fords, columns followed in perfect order, headed by the troops who bore .the brunt of the sanguinary attack in 1915. The .Austrians ensconced on the summits of Monte Santo and Sangabiulo showed no activity until the artillery began to cross. The moment jthey came into the open the Austrian guns opened an infernal fire, but tne Italian gunners continued unperturbed. Meanwhile patrols approached the outskirts of Gorizia Strong detainments of Austrian riflemen lurking in houses nept up a strong machine gun and rifle fire.
