A BIG STRIDE FORWARD. ON A MILE FRONT. London, August 13. Sir Douglas Haig reports a further important advance of four hundred yards north-west of Pozieres on a front of nearly a mile. The losses were light depsite a heavy barrage. ALLIES’ MILITARY OPERATIONS A COMPELTE AGREEMENT. Main Service. Paris, Aug. 13. The Kaiser has placed Von Tufifel, commander of the Fourteenth Corps, on the Somme, 'on the retired list after the British successes. BOMBED. NO DAMAGE DONE. Li'idon. Aug. 12. Two seaplanes dropped four bombs on Dover. So damage was done, except that an officer and six men were slightlv injured. STEAMERS TORPEDOED. Louden, August 12. A French steamer and two Norwegian steamers were torpedoed off Barfleur. FAVONIAN SHELLED WITHOUT WARNING. SUNK BY A SUBMARINE. London, August 12. The look-bnt man on the Favonian, which was submarined, has reached London. He says the vessel was shelled without warning. The ship stopped and the crew took to the boats. The submarine sank the Favoninn. An Italian passenger steamer appeared and the submarine sank her, keeping up the lire while lowering the boats. _ Several, including a woman, were killed. A third steamer was sunk. The sur-. vivors, in three boats, made for Marseilles.
