A GLASGOW STEAMER SHELLED.
BELIEVED TO BE SUNK IN NORTH SEA. Received August 12, 1 p.m. London, August 11. A submarine shelled and is believed tov have sunk a Glasgow steamer, the San Bernardo, in the North Sea. The crew escaped in the boats and were picked up. RESCUE OP A CREW. A GERMAN SUBMARINE SUNK. Received August 12, 1.40 p.m. New,York, August 11. The British steamship Normandier reports rescuing twenty-nine of the crew of the Italian steamship Angelo, sunk by a submarine in the Mediterranean, and is landing them at Algiers, The Normandier also reported the sinking by means unknown of "a twotowered German submarine in the Mediterranean. DIRECT CABLE BETWEEN RUSSIA AND AMERICA. Received August 12, 2 p.m, Petrograd, August 11. Tiie Government is considering the laying of a dircet cable between Russia and America with the Russian end at Northern Lapland.
