WAR PENSIONS BOARD.
Per Press Association. Wellington, August 11, From returns recently compiled, some interesting information is available as to the„operations of the War Pensions Board. The total number of claims lodged from soldiers up to July 31st was 2636, and from dependents 1061, making a total of 3697, These have been dealt with as follows:—There have been 639 pensions granted to soldiers; 1723 have been granted temporary allowances3B applications have been declined, and 37 applications remained to be dealt with. In regard to dependents, 853 have received pensions, 83 (mostly wives of soldiers) have oh mined allowances, 77 applications have been declined, and 50 are pending. Soldiers’ pensions, 639, represent a total annual expenditure of £35,903, or an average of £56. To 183 wives and children the sum of £17,795 has been allotted, an average of £97. Other dependents to the number of 670 have absorbed £19,906, an average of £39. The aggregate figures up to the date mentioned are as follows: — Pensions 1491 £73,604 Allowances 1804 84,000 Totals 3395 £157.604
