ADVANCING THE LINE. HEAVY GERMAN SHELLING. London, Aug. 9. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Our line advanced 400 yards south-west of Guillemonfc. Three enemy attacks assisted by flamenwerfers, northwest of Poizeres, failed, but in the fourth attack the enemy occupied fifty yards of trenches. The enemy heavily shelled Longueval, High Wood, Poizeres and Mametz, but it was quiet elsewhere. THE BRITISH BATTLE FRONT. BRIEF REPORT OF EVENTS. London, Aug. 9. The High Commissioner reports that in the vicinity of Guillemont there has been no change since yesterday. Northwards of Pozieres we further advanced, bombing along the enemy’s trenches, taking prisoner 25. In the Ypres salient, between Bellewaarde Lake and the Yser canal the enemy bombarded our trenches heavily at night between ten o’clock and midnight, discharging gas with little effect. s Some partial attacks did not enter our lines. i
