Carswell, pronounced out of danger. Gunner J. W. McLennan, pronounced out of danger. GREAT NUMBER OF GERMAN WOUNDED. A FORTNIGHT’S RESULT OP OFFENSIVE. Amsterdam, August 8. More wounded traversed Mens during the first fortnight of July than during the previous year. A military train blown up near Liege is blocking all German trains to Belgium on the left bank of the Meuse, WAR ANNIVERSARY PLEDGE. The following resolution was earned at the meeting held at Te Kuiti in conection with the war anniversary“ That we, the citizens of Te Kniti, pledge ourselves collectively and individually, to ensure that the following measures shall he carried into effect after the successful termination of the war : (1) That no German born shall be admitted to any of the British Dominions for at least 21 years after the termination of the war; (2) that no Geman horn shall be capable (of holding British property or owning shares in British companies; (3) that no German made goods shall he admitted into the British Dominions or used by us.’’ In the course of his address, the Mayor stated that the amount of £7OO had been forwarded from the Te Kniti district to the Patriotic Fond, and, in addition, a local relief fund had been started for returned men wh® were able to do light work. The men were to be employed on town beautifying works and paid out of the fund. As indicating the manner in which the manhood of the district had answered the Empire’s call, the Mayor said that from the Te Kuiti Club, with a membership of 150, no Jess than 50 men had gone to the front.
