THE SCULLING MATCH.
WEBB v. ARNST,
Per Press Association
Wanagnui, June 21
There is nothing new to report in connection with the ’ championship sculling match which takes place tomorrow. The weather is now beautifully flue. It was frosty last evening and promises to be fine tomorrow. A large number of visitors arrived on Saturday and to-day, and though interest is not so great as in former races, still there will be a big crowd to witness what promises to be a great straggle. Both champion and challenger have finished heavy work and will content themselves with a few hundred yards row. The champion was visited yesterday, and told rho interviewer he was satisfied with his condition, though he added that he did not have quite the same feeling as prior to the last race when lie felt fit to poll the sides out of his boat. He also said hewas not rowing with the same freedom, but nevertheless, he was satisfied he was in very good fettle and confident that he could win. Lloyd and Fogwell endorse the champion’s opinion as to his condition, but express no doubt as to his ability to win, Webb appaers in the pink of condition and says he feels quite as well as ever he has done, adding that be is sculling as fast if not faster than ever, and “Victor” is hopeful of success. The Herald’s aquatic writer expects to see a terrific struggle, but pins his faith on Webb, who he expects will regain the championship laurels lost in December. Arnst scales 13.3, the ex-champion two stone lighter.
