FREE SCHOOL BOOKS.

Per Press Association. Auckland, June 9. At a meeting of Auckland Board of Education strong exception was taken, to the statements of the Minister of Education regarding free school books. It was stated that the grant offered the Board was sufficient to provide only books deemed necessary, which parents had willingly provided hitherto, hut before the grant could be made the Minister insisted tha.t the Board should certify that none of the pupils who are to have free books has been asked j,'or required to buy any additional reading book which the grant would not provide, but which all concerned considered indispensable. It was resolved to co-operate with other Boards to have a more reasonable course followed.
