Lancashire and Yorkshire, at Manchester. 28.—v. Scotland (two days), at Edinburgh. AUSTRALIANS v. HAMPSHIRE. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. London, Jane 8. The weather was summer like, but the wicket difficult. The attendance was 10,000. The Australians’ innings was little more than a procession, no one with the exception of Maoalister being able to withstandl the bowling of Newman, who captured 8 wickets, the other 2 being run out. He took 7 wickets for 24, finishing with 8 for 43. The third and fourth wickets fell at 39. A smart piece of fielding on the part of Bowell disposed of Bardsley, while Whitty succumbed first ball to Newman. Next over Macalister and Armstrong carried the total to 61 then Armstrong was taken at slip off a rising ball. Newman got rid of Gregory and Macartney in the same over. Six wickets were down for 71, '7 for 75. Macalister played a plucky game lasting 40 minutes, his departure leaving the score eight for 82. Hartigan added a single. Laver the last man hit his first ball into Remnant's hands at mid-on. The innings occupied altogether 75 minutes—so to-day. The pitch was most treacherous. Scores HAMPSHIRE.—First Innings 181. The second wicket was down for 6,'and the third for 38. Llewellyn played vigorous cricket. He gave a chance to Noble off Laver when 4. After luncheon the weather was brilliant, and the attendance 3000. Mead played steady cricket. He was missed by Bardsley at slip from Laver before scoring. Hill went in when the board showed 4 for 43, and was chiefly instrumental in raising the total to 89 before the eighth wicket wont down, the fifth falling for 53, sixth for 57, and seventh for 63. Hill batted 50 minutes and displayed admirable form. His innings was marred by a difficult chance to Macalister at deep field off Macartney when 7. Whitty eventually got him with a slow yorker.
