THE MARKETS.
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. Per Press Association. - Wellington, June 7. The High Commissioner cabled on sth June, „ The muston market bontinues dull, but there was a better’demand at the close of the market on account of low prices; but stocks on hand are heavy. Good light weights are getting very scarce. Canterbury 3%d, North Island 3%d. The lamb market is weak, with low prices and increasing output. A good demand oontinu'es. Canterbury 4%d for lightweights. North Island light weight and heavy weight The beef market is rising. Stocks are small and there is a good demand for all descriptions and prices are advancing. New Zealand hinds fores 3%d. The' butter market is dull, with very little business doing, buyers holding back expecting prices to go lower. Choicest New Zealand 108 s, Danish 109 s, Siberian 98a, Australian 98a. , The cheese market is rather qmet and the demand is falling off. New Zealand white 655, coloured 665. The hemp market continues dull and no transactions of importance are reported. New Zealand good fair grade on spot £33, New Zealand fairjgrade on spot £3l 10a, fair aurent Manila on spot £33; June-Angnst shipments. New Zealand good fair £22 10a, New Zealand fair grade £3l 10s per ton ; Manila fair current ’ £2l 10s. The Manila output is 19,000 bales. There is no change in the cocksfoot market.
The wool market fa quiet and small ‘ business doing. Bradford tops are quoted aa follows 26’s low crossbreds Is. 40’s do. Is Id, 44’s med'um do. Is 3d, 60’a balfbreds Is 6%d, 56’s quarfeerbreda Is lOd, 60’s merinos 2s Bd.
The wheat market is quiet but steady. New Zealand long berried Wheat on spot ex granary per quarter of 4961b5, 46s 6d; New Zealand short berried ditto, 45s 6d. The oat market remains firm, with no change in prices, viz., New Zealand oats short sparrowhill, ex granary, on spot per quarter of 3841b5, 26s 6d; New Zealand oats, Danish, ex granary per quarter of 3301b5, 20a 3d. The beans and peas market is firm, owing to red need ' supplies. New Zealand beaus f.a.q. (old crop) per 5041b5, 36s 6d ; fNew Zealand peas, partridge, per 5041ba, 49s 6d. The shipments from River Plate during May were ;—London : Mutton 91,009, lamb 35,920 Liverpool: 164,334 and 13,435 Hull: 14,000 and 500 Newcastle : 9912 and 357. Southampton 7455 and 744. Cardiff 8500 and nil. Plymouth 1202 and 907. STOCK REPORT. Messrs Dalgety & Co., report:—At our Mangaweka sale on Saturday tbe 6th instant, we had a very good yarding of sheep and » small entry of cattle, all of which met with a ready sale. We quote:—Empty store ewes 5s Bd, mixed age ewes in lamb >Bs 2d, 9s 6d to 10s Bd, mixed lambs 7s 6d to 7s 9d, 2 to 2>£ year steers £3 13s, 3 year steers £3 18s.
