b'rom Our Own Correspondent. At the annual meeting of the Literary and Debating Society on Thursday, a large number were present. ■ The fallowing officers were elected ; for the ensuing year President, ■ Rev. D- McKenzie ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs Vaughan, H. Bennett, and. Vilesi Secretary and Treasurer, Mr D. Clark; Committee, Messrs “Berwick, Clark, Miss Powles and Mr .J. Heldt. The .. subject for the next debate is oh Compulsory Military Training. Messrs D. Clark and Viles ' will take the affirmative, whilst the negative falls to the lot of Messrs P. Quy and' H. Vaughan. The football match between Apiti and Kimbolt’on sat the last named place, on Saturday, resulted in a draw, viz., 8 points! each. A good number of ex-pupils were present at-r the annual meeting on Saturday.-in spite of the “rain. It was decide?! to hold a social and dance early next month, and judging by the strong committee elected, , it should prove a great success. H ollowing is a list of those elected President. Mr J. Matthews; VicePresident. Dr. Gregory “Messrs G. Cowan, H. Bennett, G. P. Gny G. Duncan and Hugh Osborne; Committee, Misses May,Nix, N. Osborne, Dnuoan (2), Messrs P. Ghorge. E. Dick, O. Stanley, Ritchie, Stewart, W. Prince, P. Guy and A. Obeli. A dispute between two well known, farmers, in which the many trans- ■ gressions of a bull were concerned, was settled by arbitration last week. The Court awarded damages to the extent of M 16s; whilst a second case between the same parties was dismissed. The disappearance of some fleeces was the bone of cohtention in the latter case.
