Several deputations interviewed the Minister of Agriculture to-day. A Olutha Valley deputation urged the construction of a line Jfrom JBalclutha to, Tnapeka Month, about twenty miles. They offered to give Government a guarantee that the' line would pay 3 per cent, interest on the cost of construction, which was estimated at £60,000 for a light line and £IOO,OOO for a heavy line, hut stipulated that the small contract system should he used and for prompt construction. It was also pointed out that £IOOO a year would he available out of the revenue of the Board’s endowment.
Mr Mackenzie expressed himself as very favourable to the project and advised Otago to decide what lines were to he advocated so as to present a unanimous front to Government instead of different interests urging various lines.
