From Under-Secretary of Lands, stating that £750 had been placed on the estimates to provide half cost of a recreation ground for the town. A deputation from residents of Kimbolton Road attended with a request that the footpaths be tarred and sanded. Mr Chamberlain who spoke for the deputation pointed out that the valuation of this one street was nearly equal to one-fourth of the borough, that the traffic was much in excess of any other street, and yet the improvement work done on this street was very much short of that done on Manchester Street. REPORTS. The Works Committee recommended that the road be regraded at the top end of Denbigh Street at a cost of £2O. The expenditure on this street would be £265 3s in excess of the allocation. The work done in Warwick, King and Queen Streets had left|those streets in a worse condition than ever. Additional money was required for completing them.— The report was adopted. The Engineer in his report gave an estimate for completing the footpaths in the borough previously scheduled to be finished. Formation and gravelling in streets already kerbed and channelled, £787 10s; kerbing and channelling with formation and gravelling others, £5620; incidentals £BOB, tarring and' sanding full width £3871 16s, tarring and sanding Kimbolton Road half width £1685 18s. Total £BB9BIBs. Deducting from this sum the monies still available under the loans (£6334 2s 6d) shows the balance required £2564 16s 6d.
It was resolved to hold a special meeting to consider the matter on Thursday evening next. The Abattoir Committee advised the completion of some improvements at the works and drew attention to a large accumulation of refuse at the boiling-down works. They recommended that thelessor be required to remove it at once find prevent such accumulation in future.— Adopted.
