RAILWAY EXPENDITURE.
For Press Association. Christchurch, May 32. Replying to a deputation at Leeston yesterday, the Hon. Millar said it is not the intention of the Railway Department to build elaborate railway stations throughout the railway system. What is essential <8 ample platform and office accommodation. There are requests for now stations all over the Dominion, bat the cost must be met not of revenue and only'a certain amount ia available unless a loan is raised, and the money had to be distributed over the whole system carrying such works. He would not dream of building stations at Lincoln or Doyleston. Over the whole of New Zealand only four or live stations would be replaced during the current year. It was impossible to do more owing to the restriction of expenditure to moneys from revenue. They could easily spend one million this year on the renewal of stations and yards, but their desire must ha bounded by funds available.
